About a year ago the AERA Council voted that every SIG would revise its Bylaws according to a template and to make sure that they all are in alignment to AERA's Bylaws. You will remember that last year we revised our bylaws, but then had to move them into the template. We then had them approved by the SIG Executive Committee and now the AERA Council has also approved them. We will be voting on these at the Annual Meeting so would like you to take a look at them. The changes are relatively minor (we must have a Chair and not a President, and our Webmaster is now an Information Officer). We welcome any and all feedback on this document. New Bylaws.
I just received confirmation from Dr. Marcia Linn that she will be our speaker at our business meeting at the annual meeting in San Diego in April. We are very excited and I hope that, if you are planning on coming to AERA, you will plan to attend and tell your friends. We do not yet know, of course, the evening of our session, but as soon as that is announced, we will notify you. In the meantime, here is some information about Dr. Linn: Marcia C. Linn is a professor of development and cognition specializing in education in mathematics, science, and technology in the Graduate School of Education at the University of California, Berkeley. She directs the NSF-funded Technology-enhanced Learning in Science (TELS) center.
Marcia's books include Computers, Teachers, Peers (2000), and Internet Environments for Science Education (2004). Awards include the National Association for Research in Science Teaching Award for Lifelong Distinguished Contributions to Science Education and the Council of Scientific Society Presidents first award for Excellence in Educational Research. It is now only a few months until we meet in San Diego, and I wanted to send a few notes to you. First, if you have not yet voted for our officers, and for the officers for AERA, please do so. Your vote really counts! Second, the program is now up and available for you to browse, as long as you log in with your AERA membership number. It is worth a look to see what will be happening. One thing of note is our business meeting, with Dr. Marcia Linn of Berkeley doing our keynote and fabulous refreshments you have come to expect.
The session is Monday evening, the 13th of April, and here is the information:
6:15pm to 7:45pm
Technology as an Agent of Change in Teaching and Learning SIG Business Meeting
Building: Manchester Grand Hyatt, Room: Manchester Ballroom - Section D
Our best paper award is now officially sanctioned by the AERA executive council, and I hope you will join me in celebrating this. We have the authors of the nominated papers almost ready to submit their papers, and now we need some volunteers to review those papers. Please, if you have just a bit of time, volunteer so we can identify the very best of the best. If you are willing, please send your name and specific information (what topics or what types of methods you feel comfortable reviewing) to Kelly Glassett at kglasset@siu.edu
Thank you for a great year and I look forward to seeing you in San Diego, and especially at our meeting on Monday evening.

TACTL is a Special Interest Group (SIG) of the American Educational Research Association (AERA). Its purpose is to promote research on technology as an agent of change for reform and enrichment of teaching/learning practices at pre-service, in-service, and teacher educator levels. Read more...
SIGs provide a forum within AERA for the involvement of individuals drawn together by a common interest in a field of study, teaching, or research when the existing divisional structure may not directly facilitate such activity. AERA provides the SIG's program time at the Annual Meeting, publicity, scheduling, staff support, viability, and the prestige of AERA affiliation.
